Inspired by the Game Spot 21 arcade.
Located a short walk from the west exit of JR Shinjuku Station, Game Spot 21 arcade had a glorious past in the 90s, especially with Sega’s popular “Virtua Fighter” title. Having around 100 machines mainly mahjong and fighting games during the arcade’s heyday, it drew over 500 patrons daily.
Active for more than four decades even not the most famous arcade in Tokyo, it’s a symbol of the old independent ones dying slowly. Sadly closed in January 2021. Drawing by Arthur Ortega.
