London has two regular Japanese markets. Shōtengai fills Lower Stable Street in King’s Cross for four days a month from April to December, with Christmas editions on 3 to 6 and 17 to 20 December 2026. Yokimono brings Japanese food, craft and vintage kimono to The Factory in Dalston several weekends a year, with Christmas markets in Dalston on 5 and 6 December and in Stratford on 13 December. For everyday shopping, Japan Centre runs a flagship on Panton Street, a food hall in Westfield London and three Japan Centre Express shops in north and west London.

This guide covers both: the markets first, with their next dates, then the supermarkets, grocers, food halls and Japanese convenience stores, with addresses and opening times checked in October 2026 and market dates rechecked on the organisers’ own pages on 2 November 2026.

Japanese Market Dates and Food Shops in London

Shōtengai and Yokimono Dates in London, November 2026 to 2027

Six Japanese markets open in London between 7 November and 20 December 2026. On the weekend of 5 and 6 December two of them trade at the same time, Shōtengai in King’s Cross and Yokimono in Dalston, so one Saturday can take in both.

No organiser had published 2027 dates when we checked on 2 November 2026. Beams & Co, which co-curates Shōtengai, says the market runs monthly from April to December, so Lower Stable Street has no Shōtengai from January to March. Yokimono’s recent years follow a pattern of a spring market at Riverside East in Stratford in May, a summer weekend in Dalston in June, a sample sale in November and a Christmas market in December. Japan Nakama adds each 2027 date to this table as the organisers announce them.

A shōtengai is a covered or pedestrianised neighbourhood shopping street, the kind found near almost every station in Japan. King’s Cross borrowed the name for a market that now takes over Lower Stable Street, beside Coal Drops Yard, once a month. It began as a three-weekend pop-up in the summer of 2021, which Japan Nakama covered in its report on the first Shōtengai market at Coal Drops Yard.

The market is co-curated by the agency Beams & Co and has since widened to pan-Asian traders, though Japanese food still leads. King’s Cross lists past vendors including (kits) London for Japanese homeware and tokyobike bicycles, Rise Bakery Bar’s Japanese bread, Shima’s cakes, Okan London’s okonomiyaki and Takoyaki Iseji. In September 2025, Okan’s okonomiyaki trailer and Gu Choki Pan’s Japanese bakery table were both trading on the street.

  • Food stalls: Thursday to Sunday, plus bank holiday Mondays
  • Craft and homeware stalls: Friday to Sunday, plus bank holiday Mondays
  • Hours: Thursday and Friday 12pm to 7pm; Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday Monday 11am to 6pm
  • Next markets: Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 November 2026, then the Christmas markets from Thursday 3 to Sunday 6 December and Thursday 17 to Sunday 20 December 2026
  • Getting there: King’s Cross St Pancras station, then a short walk north past Granary Square

Yokimono Japanese Market at The Factory, Dalston

Yokimono means “good things”, and the market has filled The Factory on Shacklewell Lane with Japanese food stalls, makers and vintage kimono since its first Christmas edition on 24 November 2019. It is run by Sonoe Sugawara, whose shop Furuki Yo-Kimono Vintage sits in the same building, and by her own count the June 2026 summer market was the 15th. Entry is free, with registration on Eventbrite.

The next edition is a Japanese Sample Sale on 7 and 8 November 2026, 11am to 5pm, with more than 30 Japanese makers and food businesses each day. Our Yokimono Japanese Market guide lists every trader at the sale, the full history of past markets and how to get to both of its venues, and it is updated before each edition.

Pop-Up Japanese Markets: Nishi Market and AZAZ Collective

Two newer organisers run Japanese markets as one-day events with no fixed calendar, so they are worth following on Instagram if you live nearby.

Nishi Market opened on 1 August 2026 in Arch 156 of Shepherd’s Bush Market, W12 8DF, organised by the platform Best Japanese with Sosaku Onigiri and the lifestyle creator Rina (Mi Piace). It mixed onigiri, takoyaki and Japanese bakery stalls with origami, flower arranging and tea tasting workshops. Japan Nakama’s write-up of the first Nishi Market in Shepherd’s Bush names every trader, and the Best Japanese Nishi Market page is where future dates will appear.

AZAZ Collective, founded in 2025 by three colleagues from Osaka, Edinburgh and County Kildare, pairs vinyl DJs with Japanese food and small makers. Its eighth pop-up took over Katsute100’s tea room on Broadway Market in Hackney on 12 September 2026, with bakes from Gu Choki Pan and free tickets. Read how that day ran in our report on AZAZ Pop-Up Vol.8 at Katsute100, and watch the AZAZ Collective Instagram for the next one.

Hyper Japan’s Market at Olympia and Japan Matsuri in Trafalgar Square

London’s two big annual Japanese festivals both carry a market inside them. Each has finished for 2026, and neither had announced a 2027 date when we checked on 2 November 2026.

Hyper Japan Festival ran at Olympia London from 24 to 26 July 2026, a year after its 18 to 20 July 2025 edition at the same venue. Its ticketed show includes a market area of independent sellers, which the organiser sorts into handmade crafts, traditional Japanese goods, vintage toys and character goods.

Japan Matsuri is free and fills Trafalgar Square for one Sunday each autumn, with Japanese food and craft stalls alongside its stage programme. The 2026 festival ran on 4 October from 10am to 8pm, and the 2025 Japan Matsuri on 21 September. It began at Spitalfields in 2009, moved to County Hall in 2011 and has been in Trafalgar Square since 2012.

Japan Centre now runs five Japanese supermarkets in London, counting the three Japan Centre Express shops covered below. The flagship store on Panton Street, a few minutes from Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus stations, carries imported groceries, cookware, beauty products and manga, with a bakery, sushi and hot food counters and a fishmonger inside, and a wall of instant ramen.

The bakery is the quickest reason to go in. In March 2026 a matcha melon pan, the sweet bun with a crackled biscuit crust, cost £2.20, and baked curry bread and matcha croissants were £2.99 each. For five more places to buy melon pan and shokupan, see our guide to Japanese bakeries in London.

The bigger site is Japan Centre Westfield London, still listed as Ichiba on Google, which the company describes as Europe’s largest Japanese food hall, with more than 3,000 Japanese products. Chefs make sushi, ramen, katsu curry, takoyaki and bento in open kitchens, and the hall has its own fishmonger, butcher and bakery, a café and a bookshop with manga and gifts. It sits in Relay Square on the ground floor of Westfield London, W12 7HB, a short walk from Wood Lane and Shepherd’s Bush stations, and opens Monday to Thursday 9.30am to 9.30pm and Friday and Saturday 9am to 9.30pm.

Japan Centre Express in North Finchley, Golders Green and West Acton (Formerly Atari-ya)

For years the name to know in north and west London was Atari-ya, the Japanese fish wholesaler whose neighbourhood shops sold sashimi-grade fish alongside groceries. Three of those shops now trade as Japan Centre Express, under the Japan Centre name on their signs and Google listings, and they keep the fresh fish, sashimi, sushi and ready-made sozai side dishes they were known for. Founding members of Atari-ya also started Hachi, the Soho restaurant at the top of our guide to Japanese BBQ in London.

  • North Finchley: 595 High Road, N12 0DY. Tuesday to Thursday 10am to 6pm, Friday and Saturday 10am to 7pm, Sunday 10am to 6.30pm, closed Monday
  • West Acton: 7 Station Parade, W3 0DS, opposite West Acton station. Monday to Friday 10am to 6.30pm, Saturday 10am to 7pm, Sunday 10am to 6.30pm
  • Golders Green: 15 to 16 Monkville Parade, Finchley Road, NW11 0AL, with a small sushi counter. Daily 11am to 8pm

Atari-ya’s Swiss Cottage shop on Fairfax Road is marked permanently closed. Its Kingston shop at 44 Coombe Road, KT2 7AF, still trades as Atariya Foods Kingston, daily from 11am to 8pm, and Atariya continues as a fish wholesaler to restaurants.

Soho, Queensway and Ealing: Smaller Japanese Grocers

Each of the smaller grocers has a particular strength, from late opening to a fish counter.

Rice Wine Shop, Soho. A narrow shop at 82 Brewer Street, W1F 9UA, five minutes from Piccadilly Circus, packed with rice, miso, natto, Japanese curry blocks, sake and shochu, plus onigiri and a takeaway menu. Open Monday to Saturday 10am to 8pm and Sunday 12pm to 7pm, and it also sells online.

S Mart, Bayswater. A Japanese supermarket on Queensway, W2 3RX, a short walk from Queensway and Bayswater stations, that makes sushi and donburi in store every day. Open daily 10am to 10.30pm, the latest of any shop here. Its Google listing gives 18 Queensway and its own posts give 20 Queensway, so look for it between the two.

Natural Natural, Ealing Common and Finchley Road. Community Japanese and organic grocers selling fresh vegetables and fruit, frozen food, sake and a homemade deli. The Ealing Common store is at 21 Station Parade, Uxbridge Road, W5 3LD, two minutes from Ealing Common station, and next door at number 20 its sister shop SAKESAKANA natural natural specialises in fresh fish, sashimi and Japanese sake. The Finchley Road store is at 1 Goldhurst Terrace, NW6 3HX, a minute from Finchley Road station. Both grocers open Monday to Saturday 9am to 7pm and Sunday 10am to 7pm.

HIS Japan Premium Food and Travel, Shaftesbury Avenue. At 212 Shaftesbury Avenue, WC2H 8EB, this shop specialises in regional ingredients, Japanese tea and sake from across Japan, and runs sake tastings. In January 2026 it held a kakuuchi evening, five small cups of sake for £11.50; kakuuchi is the Japanese custom of drinking at the counter of the shop that sells the sake. Open Monday to Saturday 11am to 8pm, closed Sunday.

Conveni Tokyo and Shoryu Konbini: Japanese Convenience Stores in North and East London

A konbini is a Japanese convenience store, the corner shop run by chains such as 7-Eleven, Lawson and FamilyMart that sells rice balls, hot snacks and drinks. Two London shops borrow the idea, and our guide to konbini food in Japan explains what fills the shelves over there.

Conveni Tokyo, Colindale and Golders Green. Two shops selling fresh Japanese ingredients, at 25 Heritage Avenue, NW9 5WT, in Colindale and 16 North End Road, NW11 7PH, in Golders Green. Both open every day from 9am to 8.30pm, and orders placed online can be collected from either branch.

Shoryu Konbini, Stratford. On the first floor of the Great Eastern Market food hall in Westfield Stratford City, E20 1EJ, this shop mixes Japanese convenience store groceries with a menu to eat in or take away: Hakata tonkotsu ramen made from a broth cooked for 12 hours, donburi rice bowls, sushi and curry. It keeps the shopping centre’s hours, listed on Westfield’s Shoryu Konbini page.

Tazaki Cash and Carry in Greenwich

Tazaki Foods has imported Japanese food into the UK since 1978 and launched Yutaka, its range of Japanese sushi ingredients for UK supermarket shelves, in 1995. Its importing side is a familiar name at Drink Japan, where it pours sake from its portfolio.

In Greenwich it now runs Tazaki Cash and Carry, close to the O2 at 20 Horn Lane, SE10 0RT. It took over an East Asian cash and carry that had traded on the site for more than 20 years, and Tazaki says it is adding its own Japanese range and holding tastings there. It serves restaurants buying in bulk, and its Google listing shows it open Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 7pm and Sunday 10.30am to 4.30pm.

Japanese Christmas Markets in London: Shōtengai and Yokimono, December 2026

Shōtengai turns festive twice this year. Its pan-Asian Christmas market fills Lower Stable Street from Thursday 3 to Sunday 6 December and again from Thursday 17 to Sunday 20 December 2026, with free entry and the same opening hours as the monthly market. King’s Cross says the festive edition brings back the season’s most popular food and craft traders alongside new ones. Last year’s ran from 18 to 21 December 2025.

Both weekends fall during Christmas at King’s Cross, whose Winter Market in Granary Square, a short walk from Lower Stable Street, runs from 26 November 2026 to 3 January 2027.

Yokimono runs two Christmas markets this year, the first time it has held more than one. The Dalston market returns to The Factory on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December 2026. A one-day market follows at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford on Sunday 13 December 2026. Sonoe Sugawara, who runs Yokimono, confirmed both dates to Japan Nakama, and the market’s Instagram will carry the details after the November sale. Last year’s Christmas market ran workshops in fruit mochi and shimenawa wreath making, the twisted rice straw decorations hung on doors at New Year. Times and traders for both 2026 markets will be added to the Yokimono guide once the organiser publishes them.

Buying Japanese Groceries Online in the UK

If none of these shops is near you, several of them deliver. Japan Centre, Rice Wine Shop and Natural Natural all run online shops. WASO is a London-based online Japanese supermarket that delivers across the UK; its address on Vallance Road in east London is a warehouse, so there is no shop to visit.
