Japan is well-known for its huge variety of tasty and innovative sweets. While most people might already be familiar with everyday treats like mochi and dango, nerikiri wagashi (練り切り和菓子) are high-class sweets that could easily pass as works of art.
Usually made from sweetened and boiled red and white bean pastes, these little morsels are sculpted by artisans into stunning shapes that look too good to eat. They are traditionally served with green tea during a tea ceremony.
