Since its inception in 2009, Japan Matsuri has grown from a small cultural event to a full-blown festival that attracts thousands of visitors every year. Originally held in Spitalfields and County Hall, the festival found its permanent home in Trafalgar Square in 2012, where it has continued to grow in size and significance.

Every year, the event draws in a wide audience of Londoners, members of the Japanese community, tourists, families, and friends eager to immerse themselves in a day filled with all things Japanese.

The word “Matsuri” (祭り) means festival in Japanese, and this one certainly lives up to its name. Japan Matsuri showcases a broad spectrum of Japanese culture, from traditional arts and crafts to modern pop culture, creating a space where the rich heritage of Japan meets the vibrant and dynamic influences of today.
